Here's why I make art:
I believe that each of us is imperfectly beautiful. But, too often, we focus on the imperfect part and ignore the beauty. My artwork is an attempt to make that beauty easier to witness and drink in, in the midst of our imperfect lives, as we move through our imperfect world. It’s about shifting the lens we use so that we can see how, even what appears to be broken, has value.
I’ve spent many years doing work related to child welfare and intercultural responsiveness. Two of the most important creative tools I’ve incorporated into that work are self-care and mindfulness. These also guide my artwork. At times, each of us can feel lost to ourselves and to others. I like to think of my pieces as self-care charms, and reminders to embrace mindfulness. I hope they help you move more easily along your path.
